Google and GoPro have combined their powers in creating a new, 360 degrees virtual reality camera. Google’s Jump is a sophisticated camera which captures the world in full circle, as revealed on their recent I/O conference. Although the camera is already in use in several countries, Google are now partnering with GoPro in commercialising the product for the broad market. GoPro are now manufacturing a new VR type camera with the Google Jump technology.
According to Clay Bavor, vice president of product management at Google, the program is “part of a broader effort to use immersive video to virtually transport people to places that otherwise might be out of reach”. Tying the new product to Google’s existing technology, the company will release Jump videos for the Google Cardboard, virtual reality hardware which uses a regular smartphone as the display.
