Apple Removes “Free”

Posted by: admin | News | November 21, 2014 Apple Removes “Free”

Apple is following the road of Google’s Android OS, and are now replacing the word “free” in App Store with “get”. Apple has offered no official reasoning behind the decision, but it seems clear that it’s a result of the last few years’ constant debate on the ethics of “freemium” apps, a debate which has intensified in the last couple of months. As more and more apps are free to download but offers multiple items and features on sale in-app, the debate has circled around whether the apps actually can be considered “free”. Apple has now followed Google’s recent changes, simply labelling an app with “get” instead of “free”. The decision follows the scrutiny of a July verdict by the European Commission, in which Apple’s previous labelling was referred to as “regrettable”.
