R/GA has appointed a new global chief strategy officer, parting ways with the New York managing director of planning. The new global chief strategy officer is veteran staffer Barry Wacksman.
“We are very happy to report that after 16 years as chief growth officer, Barry Wacksman has been named R/GA’s global chief strategy officer”, a spokesperson for the firm said, adding that the he is now “working with the strategy and planning teams across R/GA’s global network to further evolve the discipline and ensure that it continues to meet the rapidly changing needs of our clients.”
Wacksman is well known as a published writer, who joined R/GA in 1999 when the then upstart had as few as fifty employees. He was the key architect behind their digital-first strategy “The Connected Age”, which led to the agency being named digital agency of the year in 2014 by Adweek. The strategy has been summarised as one which posits that today’s clients need “a connected ecosystem of products, services and communications”.
