Star Wars and Female Directors

Posted by: admin | News | October 29, 2015 Star Wars and Female Directors

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, wishes to see female directors in the future of the Star Wars franchise. Currently, with three films scheduled for the coming years, all are directed by men – but Kennedy hopes to change that in the future, after discussing the situation at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington.

“There’s nothing we’d like more than to find a female director for ‘Star Wars’,” she said. “There is an assumption made that the people involved should predominantly be men. There are women who are ‘Star Wars’ fans. That’s what’s so insane.”

The directors for the upcoming three films are all set – J.J. Abrams for “Episode VII,” Rian Johnson for “Episode VIII” and Colin Trevorrow for “Episode IX”, and “Rogue One” is also directed by a man, Gareth Edwards, and an upcoming Han Solo origin film will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
