Blackmagic Design has announced their latest achievement – Blackmagic URSA Mini, the world’s lightest handheld Super 35 digital film camera. The camera is optimised for handheld use, with its light weight enabling the user to carry it throughout the entire work day. The URSA Mini features a 4.6K image sensor, switchable global or rolling shutter, up to 15 stops of dynamic range, dual RAW and Apple ProRes recorders, and an impressive 5 inch viewfinder with a high resolution 1920 x 1080 colour OLED display.
“Building on the phenomenal success of URSA, we’ve miniaturized the camera, included all of the essential tools filmmakers need, and still managed to make it light enough to use all day”, said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design. “URSA Mini puts true Super 35 digital film quality in the palm of your hand and is, quite simply, the most exciting camera I’ve ever seen!”
The design allows for a resolution of as much as 4608 x 2592 pixels, and the global and rolling shutters achieves filming of 15 and 30 frames per second, respectively. The camera comes in four models, with the choice of 4.6K or 4K sensors and EF or PL mount. The Blackmagic URSA Mini 4K model starts at $2995.
