Twitter is now launching their new advertising service, allowing for ads inside other apps. The ads are promoted tweets and videos, appearing in apps other than your regular Twitter app. This is a brand new type of advertisement for the mobile phone market, which is otherwise used to seeing ads in their respective apps, usually promoting other apps which in turn rely on in-app purchases.
Twitter does this through their Twitter Audience Platform, facilitated by the purchase of mobile ad exchange company MoPud in September 2013. Twitter has long used promoted tweets as advertisement thrown into your regular Twitter feed, but this is a whole new venture in which they stretch these promoted tweets and videos to other apps as well.
“Today when our clients when run ads on Twitter they can reach an audience of 300 million monthly active users,” said senior director of revenue products Ameet Randive. He added that now, advertisers “can reach over 700 million people” with promoted tweets and videos running on associated apps outside of Twitter. “We’re helping them with this trend where consumers are spending much more time on mobile, and spending more time within apps.”
